What is ABA?
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is an evidence-based science used for examining and changing socially significant behavior. Programmiersoftware swiss phone clear. Practitioners in this field obtain certification through the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB).
BACB Mission Statement (BACB website)
The BACB’s mission is to develop, promote, and implement an international certification program for behavior analyst practitioners. The BACB has established uniform content, standards, and criteria for the credentialing process that are designed to meet:
- The legal standards established through state, federal and case law,
- The accepted standards for national certification programs, and
- The 'best practice' and ethical standards of the behavior analysis profession.
BACB Approved Courses at ASU
Courses for the ABA program beginning in Summer 2013 are based on the current BACB Task List 4th edition Course Content Allocations.
Transitioning from 3rd Edition Task List (TL-3) to 4th Edition Task List (TL-4) requirements
- Starting with the January 2015 examination, the Task List 4 coursework requirements will go into effect.
2015 change to 4th Edition coursework: The BACB increased coursework requirements based on the 4th Edition Task List are effective January 1, 2015. However, some applicants who qualify under the current 3rd Edition coursework standards by the end of 2014 may not be able to obtain final transcripts before the end of the year. Therefore, BACB will allow a 90-day grace period for applications utilizing 3rd Edition coursework. This grace period will applyonly to applications where all of the requirements for certification were met prior to January 1, 2015 and all application materials (e.g., fees, documentation) are received by BACB prior to March 31, 2015. If any portion of the requirements (degree, coursework, or experience) was not completed before January 1, 2015, then the application will be subject to the 4th Edition coursework standards. If any part of the application is incomplete as of March 31, 2015, the application will be subject to the 4th Edition coursework standards. Please contact BACB directly if you have questions regarding the application grace period.
4th Edition Task List Courses
Starting Summer 2013, ASU offers a pre-approved 6 course sequence which meets the BACB Task List edition 4 content area requirements to qualify to sit for the Task List Edition 4 exam.
- New Task List 4 standards require that ethics and professionalism be taught in at least one course (45 hours minimum) devoted to these topics, covering the BACB Professional Disciplinary and Ethical Standards and Guidelines for Responsible Conduct for Behavior Analysts.
- Two blocks have been formed. Courses in Block A (Foundational) must be completed prior to Block B (Advanced)
- Courses within either block can be taken in any order. For example, a student can enter into Block A and begin with SPE 531 or SPE 566 or SPE 567. After completion of the Block A courses, students could start Block B with any of the three courses (SPE 568, SPE 569 or SPE 565).
