The Central University of Andhra Pradesh is an Indian Public Research University located in Anantapur district, Andhra Pradesh, India.The Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), New Delhi has sanctioned a Central University of Andhra Pradesh (CUAP) on Neelampalli Road near Jantaluru village, Anantapur District, vide Lr. F.No.19-18/2014 Desk U, dated 23.05.2018.The university has been allotted 493.23 acres of land in Jantaluru Village, Anantapur district.[1]

  2. 1 THE UNIVERSITY The University of Hyderabad, a premier institution of postgraduate teaching and research in the country, was established by an Act of Parliament (Act No. 39 of 1974) on 2nd October, 1974 as a Central University, wholly funded by the University Grants Commission.

Introduction[edit]

Hyderabad Central University offers post graduate, doctoral and diploma level courses in arts, science and technical subjects. It offers five years integrated courses for post graduation as well as doctoral studies.

The Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act 2014, for the bifurcation of the existing state of Andhra Pradesh, into the States of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, has received the assent of the President of India on 1st March, 2014 and the same has been enacted from 2nd June, 2014. As per the Schedule 13 to the Act, the Government of India is required to establish Institutions of National Importance in the 12th and 13th Plan periods in the residual State of Andhra Pradesh, one of them being a Central University.

There are 46 Central Universities across India as on 15th Jan 2016 according to UGC. The Central University of Andhra Pradesh is the 47th Central University. All new Central Universities are governed by the Central Universities Act, 2009, which regulates their purpose, powers governance etc.

Central university comes under the purview of the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development. The Central Universities are recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC), which draws its power from the University Grants Commission Act, 1956.

Central University of Andhra Pradesh is to be established in the district of Anantapuramu. It is the largest district in terms of area in Andhra Pradesh and 7th largest district in India respectively. Anantapuramu is the southern-most district of the Rayalseema region of Andhra Pradesh. Anantapuramu is also an important education Centre with educational schools, colleges and universities namely Sri Krishnadevaraya University, JNTU Anantapuramu, Sri Sathya Sai University, Government Medical College etc.. are reputed colleges in Anantapuramu district.

Establishment of Central University in the newly formed State of Andhra Pradesh, would be aimed to create opportunities for eligible youth of the region. The curriculum of the university will have demand driven multidisciplinary courses, integrating teaching and research, as well as offering short term and long term vocational courses, in partnership and collaboration with the above mentioned industries and sectors.The Central University will also have focus on Study in India Programattracting foreign students with the possibility of credit transfer.

  • University of Hyderabad will be playing a role of an mentor for Central University of Andhra Pradesh. The university will be guiding through the admissions, student registrations, forming academic regulation, curriculum, and faculty related disciplines of CUAP.[2]
  • The IT Business Incubation Centre, JNTU Anantapur has been identified as Transit Campus to the new Central University to begin the academic and administrative activities for the academic year 2018-19 for 3 years and the CUAP will be moved to its own building in Jantaluru village, Anantapur District upon completion of its own buildings.[3]

  • Admission for six courses at graduate and post graduate level is being offered for B.A. (Hons. – Political Science), B.Sc. (Hons., – Economics), Bachelor of Vocational in Tourism and Travel, Bachelor of Vocational in Retail Management & IT, M.A. in Telugu, M.A. in English Language & Literature.
  • More than 120 seats filled for the said courses.
  • The classes for the said courses will be conducted in the Transit Campus i.e., the IT Business Incubation Centre for 3 years before moving to its own campus at Jantaluru village, Anantapur District.
